little things in life

Posted: February 5, 2010 in freestyle, life

The fresh scent of coffee on the pot.

The rushing sound of waves crashing against a small shore, turning the  soft sand wet.

Flames licking gently at the brick chimney in its controlled space.

A tiny butterfly settling on your window sill.

These are the little things in life

that keep hectic humans continuing through out thier day.

Many people do not notice these things,

They run frantically dash out of the door, instead of taking time to smell the coffee,

they are to busy trying to pull back their hair from the wind,

and trying to avoid the sticky sand

to hear the waves,

they are too busy to make a fire, much less notice how high it can get into the chimney,

and some people smash the butterfly by accident, slamming thier windows down on the world and every thing outside.

But  there are people who stop to notice the little things in life,

and how special they are.

How the trees speak through the voice of nature,

as the wind weaves its way through the branches.

How the little things in life keep us stabilized and going.

How they keep us focused.

Like how during a test,

you can see the sunshine shining softly through slits in the blinds.

How the waxy petals on a rose have managed to turn so red.

How a hawk soars through the sky like a knife,

cutting through the clouds,

waiting to spot its prey.

Be ready,

to notice the little things in life.

She sits and thinks queitly to herself

Her thoughts bounce around in her head as she sits in silence.

How will it work?

What do I do?

School is coming tomorow,

and she needs a plan.

She needs to create something that will wow

all the teachers in the school.

It will send them spinning into fanantics.

She will understand every math problem

as though it was as easy as breathing.

She will pay attention is social studies class and be ready

for any hard test that comes her way.

In spanish class,

She will speak the rapid language in

perfect language.

she just needs an Imagination

Janurary night

The cutting edge of coldness seeps through the black night

The ground is lightly sprinkled with snow,

but over the hours,

it piles high with the gentle flakes swirling about.

The frozen ground crunches in the woods as dear make thier way through winter,

eating bark off trees, and nibbling at tiny perks of grass through the snow.

In the back yard of the next yard over,

a beutifull red fox rests,

as the artist inside is busily sketching away before the fox decides to dissapear off into the woods.

The frozen pond is not sturdy enough to hold a person, but it can hold small animals like squerrels.

A flock of canadian geese fly overhead.

It is a soft Janurary night

Every one else

Posted: January 25, 2010 in freestyle, life

He plops down on the cold curb,

and runs his perfect hands through his perfect hair.

She watches him from across the street,

slowly sipping her StarBucks cappachino.

He shuffles his feet,

in thier big basketball shoes,

with the black markings down the side.

He puts his arms down and crosses them across his chest,

wearing a striped blue

short-sleeve t-shirt.

What happened to him?

she wonders from her seat,

her face finally out of her book.

Did he lose a game?

Did he lose a girl?

How is a boy like that going to have problems.

What she doesn’t know,

is that he’s just like everyone else.

He’s perfect on the outside,

but that is is just a false image,

put out for the world to see and worship.

But inside, he has problems just like everyone else.

He pulls a lacross ball from his pocket,

and slams it against the nearby fence.

The fence rattles and shakes,

modeling his temper.

He swings back,

and chucks it again.

This tiny little lacross ball has been whamed against the fence with a force it would never have

on its own.

He bares his teeth and grunts a little.

He throws the ball one last time, over the fence,

and breaks a window of a warehouse.

He goes from rage,

to stricken fear,

as he sprints away,

his baggy jeans swishing,

and his belt threathing to slip down all the way.

he has dissapeared in the silky black darkness compleatly.

Sunday night

Posted: January 22, 2010 in freestyle, life

Dusk settles over the yard,

and the bright white patches of snow stick out like loud colors.

A dog barks from a few doors down.

It has been a long week filled with school,

the same routine,

waking up,

getting breakfast,

catching the bus.

Sitting through school,

seeing friends,

slowly learning new things through each

forty-five minute periods.

Saturday is a but day filled with fun,

and exellence.

the memories of the past week seem all

a blur,

as I try to process them in my mind.

I know that I will do it all again, tomorrow,

and a week from now I will be in the same position

The Beach

Posted: January 21, 2010 in freestyle, life, Nature

The soft smell of sand,

and the ocean

fill my nostrils.

It is a comforting scent.

Just to be there,

sitting on the beach

in a green-striped beach chair,

was enough to make my head reel with simple joy.

The seagulls caw from their perch beside our picnic blanket.

There is a sudden splash from below,

as the giggling children dropped the rock they were looking under,

when they saw a tiny crab scuttle away.

I watch as the salty sea frothes against the shores,

and as dusk approaches,

Lights blink on from the boats far away on the water.

a low growling sound comes from the fast speeding motor boats

as they rush by,

making enourmous wakes in the

no-wake zone.

Tiny waves lap against the sides of a sail boat,

as it sails slowly toward the docks.

Soon, there is a brilliant ball of fire hovering over the blue sea,

turning it blood red.

Pink clouds float gently across the orange sky.

seconds later, the sun blinks out of sight,

and the moon appears on the horizon.

Rapidly, the sky turns from light blue,

to a silky dark blue,

dotted with twinkly stars.

A tiny red dot represents mars on this fine night.

Color is all around me,

because color is what the beach is all about

True Beauty

Posted: January 18, 2010 in freestyle, life, Nature

The crisp cold air seeps through our jackets.

Leave crunch quietly underneath our feet,

as we walk through the winding paths.

All the trees seem to be

leaning to one side,

and there were a few fallen logs.

All the leaves had fallen when the winter months had come on,

so the forest seemed bare with no leaves.

The snow covered a few of the naked branches.

Large boulders have snowy white hats on,

although thier hats are melting.

It is hard to go down the steep hills without slipping,

but soon we are at the bottom.

As we near the end of our walk,

we heard bird calls from the trees above.

But soon,

one thing is able to damage the peace of serenity of this wonderfull forest.

the parking lot.

The crumbly pavement and fading white stripes

make everything look dull and unappealing.

Only in the heart of the the forest will you see its true beauty.
